Comfortable and comforting – all hail the Aussie flanno
The flanno – it’s an Aussie icon. Up there with the likes of the Big Banana and the Giant Prawn. But this year, thanks to you, it’s also become an incredible symbol of hope for our Aussie farmers.
We asked our community to don your favourite flanno and raise funds in solidarity with our farmers. And boy did you answer the call!
The very first Flanno for a Farmer was held on Friday 25 August, and together we raised over $212,000 for our Aussie farmers with the help of people like you.
We are overwhelmed by this result and want to say the most heartfelt ‘thank you’ for the incredible generosity shown.
Together, a wave of flanno was created around the nation, showing an outpouring of support for our farmers who are doing it tough. We loved seeing the photos of each and every one of our flanno clad heroes (there were even a few famous faces in the mix)! Fashion with compassion
If putting on your fave flanno in the morning feels like getting a big warm hug, imagine how our farmers felt seeing so many people roll up their sleeves to come to their aid! But it wasn’t all about the warm and fuzzies. The generosity of our Flanno for a Farmer supporters will make an incredible difference in the lives of those doing it tough on the farms.
Because of people just like you hundreds of farmers could receive a visit from an Angel on the Road, delivering hampers, and lending a friendly ear over a cuppa. Or thousands of wellness checks by our Angels on the Phone could be conducted on farmers struck by fire, flood, drought or other natural disasters. A much-needed lifeline for those reeling from the ongoing financial and emotional impacts of these devastating events.
These acts of kindness and compassion mean the world to our farmers and are only possible because of supporters like you.
Care in uncertain times
The incredible generosity shown as part of the inaugural Flanno for a Farmer will touch the lives of so many. People like Ross*. He and his wife Maureen are olive producers in South Australia. After nearly 40 years on their property, putting in their all every day to create a successful business, drought struck, destroying their crops. Compounded by a devastating cancer diagnosis for Ross they were facing financial disaster. But thanks to the generosity of people like you, Ross and Maureen received immediate financial assistance. Something he described as “…a beacon of hope in an otherwise very dark time.”
There are so many other farmers, just like Ross, impacted by natural disasters, mental wellbeing issues, or the rising costs of primary production. They are resilient, but they are struggling. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our flanno clad heroes and their supporters, they will now receive the care and assistance they so desperately need to stay afloat.
Community spirit
We couldn’t have made the very first Flanno for a Farmer such an incredible success without the immense generosity of our partners.
